Independently Tested: Quality and Safety at BERTSCHAT

Independently Tested: Quality and Safety at BERTSCHAT

When you choose a heated product, you expect more than warmth. You want a product you can rely on – whether you are working outdoors, cycling, skiing, hiking or simply spending time in cold conditions.

At BERTSCHAT, we believe quality and safety should not be based solely on what we say about our own products. That is why, in addition to our own product development and quality controls, we voluntarily invest in independent testing by internationally recognised testing organisations such as TÜV Rheinland and Eurofins.

These tests are carried out on our own initiative and at our own expense. Not because independent testing is simply a label to put on a product page, but because we believe it is an important part of developing and offering products our customers can trust.

Why independent testing?

Heated products are different from ordinary clothing. They combine textiles with electronics, heating elements, wiring and rechargeable batteries in products that are often worn directly on or close to the body.

That makes the technology behind the warmth just as important as the warmth itself.

Our own quality controls play an essential role throughout product development and production. But we deliberately take this a step further. By involving independent testing organisations, relevant aspects of our products can be assessed against recognised standards and requirements by specialists outside BERTSCHAT.

It provides an additional, independent layer of verification alongside our own testing and quality processes.

Tested by TÜV Rheinland

Selected BERTSCHAT heated products have undergone independent EMC testing by TÜV Rheinland.

EMC stands for electromagnetic compatibility. In simple terms, these tests assess how electronic products behave in relation to electromagnetic interference.

Our products have been tested according to:

EN IEC 55014-1:2021 & EN IEC 55014-2:2021

These standards cover both electromagnetic emissions and immunity. This means testing looks at whether the electronics remain within applicable limits for electromagnetic emissions and how they perform when exposed to electromagnetic disturbances.

For us, this is particularly relevant because our heated products combine electronic components and heating technology in something designed to be used and worn for extended periods.

Independently tested by Eurofins

Our independent testing programme goes beyond EMC.

BERTSCHAT also works with Eurofins, an internationally recognised testing and laboratory organisation, for additional product and compliance testing.

This includes testing relating to requirements such as RoHS and REACH, which address restricted substances and chemicals in products, materials and electronic components.

By working with multiple independent testing organisations, we can have different aspects of our products assessed by external specialists rather than relying exclusively on internal checks or supplier declarations.

Why we choose to make this investment

Independent laboratory testing requires additional time, coordination and investment. We consciously choose to make that investment ourselves.

Our aim is not simply to meet the minimum required standard. We want to continuously improve our products and build a heated range in which performance, quality and responsible product development go hand in hand.

External testing also gives our own product team valuable information. Test results can help us evaluate materials and components, verify technical performance and identify areas where products or production processes can be further improved.

In other words, independent testing is not the final step after developing a product. It is part of how we develop better products.

Our approach to quality

For BERTSCHAT, quality consists of several layers:

  • Careful product development and component selection
  • Internal quality controls and performance testing
  • Independent laboratory testing by organisations such as TÜV Rheinland and Eurofins
  • Testing against relevant European standards and requirements
  • Continuous product development based on testing, experience and customer feedback

Together, these steps help us work towards one goal: offering heated products that deliver reliable warmth and that our customers can use with confidence.

Which BERTSCHAT products are independently tested?

Independent testing applies to selected products within our heated range and is being expanded across categories including heated gloves, heated socks, heated insoles and heated clothing.

Because the exact tests can differ by product and product category, we indicate the applicable independent testing and standards on the relevant product pages.

This is also why we prefer clear descriptions such as “TÜV Rheinland EMC-tested” or “independently tested by Eurofins” rather than using a general certification claim where it does not accurately describe the assessment performed.

More than just warmth

Our goal at BERTSCHAT is simple: to help people enjoy, work and perform in cold conditions without being limited by the temperature.

Achieving that requires more than making a product warm. It means paying attention to the technology, materials and components behind that warmth.

That is why we continue to combine our own product development and quality controls with independent external testing – carried out on our initiative and at our expense.

Because when it comes to products you wear close to your body, we believe quality should not just be promised.

It should be tested.
